Happy Friday everyone! Yup, Feature Friday this week is the Fisher Price
Rock N Play Sleeper. For some of you, this is old news, but if you're
expecting, take note! In my opinion, the Rock N Play is one of the best,
and yet one of the most under appreciated pieces of baby equipment. I
highly recommend this for all registries and pre-baby shopping lists.
Here's my detailed review so you can see why:
Overview: The Rock N Play by Fisher Price offers a simple yet unique design that makes it a great pierce of equipment to have for your new baby. It may seem at first glance too simplistic but I promise you it has everything a new baby needs whether they are hanging out or sleeping. The incline of the seat, and the contoured (breathable) sides make it very cozy and comforting for baby. I didn't know about the Rock N Play with my first son (I SO wish I had), but I found it a lifesaver in the first couple months with both of my second son. I had him lounging in it at times during the day, and he slept in it at night for the first 2 months of his life. He had bad reflux, and the incline I know was a huge help. The lifespan of the Rock N Play was fairly short for us, we used it through 3-4 months(ish) but I definitely feel like I got my moneys worth. The Rock N Play can be used until baby is 25 lbs, but is only recommend for babies that cannot sit up by themselves or pull on the sides of the seat.
Versatility: I love a product that has multiple functions. The Rock N Play, Sleeper, just as it sounds can be used as a rocking seat and as place to nap or sleep "for the night" :-). The rocking function is simple, nothing automatic, but just give it soft push and it will rock gently front to back; it also has a 3 point harness which is great for safety.. In terms of sleep, for my son it was the ideal position with the slight incline, deep seat, and contoured sides etc. I would swaddle him and it provided us the longest stretches of sleep.
Portability: You really can't beat the easy button close flat fold, and light weight. I found myself taking it room to room and to grandparents house.
Easy to Use: The Rock N Play is easy to put together and really easy to use and fold up etc. Some of the more expensive models offer a few additions, but generally speaking there are no bells and whistles. Another great feature is that the seat and inserts are removable and machine washable which is a huge benefit (mine has been washed countless times).
Price Tag & Options: As word is spreading on the value and benefits of the Rock N Play, Fisher Price has come out with a few options. The traditional Rock N Play Sleeper (which I have) its very basic but definitely does the trick. This model retails for $50 but is on sale right now for $44. The newer version of the Rock N Play Sleeper now comes with a calming vibration option which retails for $60. They've also added a Deluxe Rock N Play Sleeper to the line that offers a cozy soft lining and cute and plush insert as well as the calming vibration, retailing for $70. All are terrific options, but I personally think the basic model does the trick for a great price point.
Cons: I really love this product so much, its hard to find to many negatives... But, a couple things to point out:
Keep in mind this is my personal opinion, 100% based on my own thoughts and experiences. I'm not guaranteeing every baby will love this, because we all know that all babies are different, but I do think this is a great product and definitely a good thing to have on hand and try out when you bring baby home.
Have you used the Rock N Play Sleeper? I'd love to hear your feedback!
