Maine Winters are magical, but oh so brutal on your skin. Whether I'm playing outside with the kids, spending the days at the hockey rink or warming up inside with the heat of our wood stove, dry skin is real. I've tried so many different products to combat the effects of the cold (i.e. looking like a shriveled prune). I assume I'm not the only one, so I thought I'd share some of my current favorites. I'm not an expert and I obviously don't have perfect skin, but these are some things that have been helping me.
Beautycounter Cleansing Balm
The Beautycounter Cleansing Balm is my absolute favorite cleanser to use at night, especially in the Winter as it's ultra soothing and nourishing. You know I also love the quality and cleanness of Beautycounter products - you can shop my page here.
DIY Toner & Glow Serum
I have tried a lot of expensive serums, and I'm obsessed with my DIY glow serum. I've seen a noticeable difference in my skin and I love that I know exactly what's in it. You can read more about it here. Feel free to reach out with any questions. If you're looking to dive into oils you can purchase your starter kit here.
Self Tanning Serum
Winter can be long and sometimes a little boost of fake sunshine is what I need. I'm a big fan of Coola Tanning products, I use their Dry Oil Mist on my legs during the summer too, but I tend to use the Sunless Tan Anti-Aging Serum in my regimen year round.
A Hydrating Mask
Once a week or so I like to treat my face to a hydrating mask. A friend just introduced me to these Peach Slices Hydrate masks and I love them! I also like this Kieh's Overnight Hydrating Mask and this Indian Healing Clay.
Resurfacing Peel
I use the Beautycounter Resurfacing Peel a few nights a week to give some new life to my skin. In the Winter it seems even more important to clear away dull surface cells. I love the tingly feeling of this product too - you can shop it here. I've also recently been trying out the Hyaluronic Acid from Pure Haven Essentials which is a hydrating serum that's supposed to help with elasticity. You can shop with your local consultant or shop my consultant Kate's page here.
Collagen Peptides
Collagen has so many benefits including promoting stronger nails, healthier hair and more elasticity in your skin. I put these collagen peptides in my smoothie everyday and call me crazy but I swear it makes my skin look and feel better.
Lots of Water
In the Summer I am so good about drinking water all day everyday. In the winter, its a bit more of a struggle. I have found that starting my day with a big glass of water with a drop of lemon and peppermint essential oils gets me started on the right foot. Then the goal is to drink half my body weight in ounces of water - hydrating from the inside out :-)
Skin Food
I first got hooked on Weleda using their baby lotion, I used to put it all over my hands after putting it on my kiddo. Their Skin Food cream is one of my favorites to use on my hands extra dry spots like my elbows.
Humidifier
The dry heat can be rough on my skin and my headaches. I find that using humidifiers helps tremendously. I'm a big fan of this new 3 in one humidifier from Frida Baby as it allows me to simultaneously diffuse my favorite oils.
These are some of my favorites, but please chime in and leave a comment with your favorites! - let's help each other out here in these cold climates! Thanks as always for stopping by! XX
