Summer has been flying by! I almost forgot to share our big victory; a few months ago Calvin (our three year old) finally potty trained (yay)! We are officially done with diapers (for now). This go-around with Calvin could not have been more different than our first go-around with Jack. Just goes to show every kid is different. Jack trained at 2; he initiated it, asked for undies, and loved rewards (note he is super competitive), it was also a bit of a longer process. Calvin not so much. NO interest in the potty what-so-ever for a long time. But one day when he was 3, after we'd taken a long hiatus from the subject, I asked him if he'd like to use the potty and wear undies, and he said "ok" (phew!). That was pretty much it, there was seriously very little training involved; he was ready to do it. We of course have had a few accidents (though very few at night which is huge in my book) and of course our share of funny stories (I'll save those for another post), but I'm calling it a success! I won't bother to give advice, because I'm no expert, and I truly believe different things and different timing work for different kiddos. I will say this; wait until your little one is showing signs he/she is really ready, and take your ques from them. I also thought it would be fun to share some potty training products I've loved! ZOOCCHINI Underwear- We LOVE these super soft organic cotton and really fun boxer briefs. From my experience its important to have undies your little one is excited to wear and doesn't want to get dirty :-) These look so comfy and really could not be any cuter, and most importantly Calvin loves wearing them. I prefer to "pull the band-aid" and jump to undies, but if you're thinking it's too risky and need an option in between diapers and undies, note that ZOOCCHINI also makes great training pants! Pure Grace Mattress Protector- Without fail, there will always be a nighttime accident, some more than others, and a mattress pad is essential. We recently tried Pure Grace, and not sure we'll ever go back! Pure Grace offers an ultra-thin waterproof layer that is TPU (solvent free) and free of BPA, vinyl, PVC & phthalates. It's SO incredibly soft, and you (like me) can rest easy that your little one is sleeping on a safe surface. Also note that we've washed it regularly with no problems at all. Baby Bjorn Potty Accessories- Like a broken record, I will say every kid is different. My older son wanted nothing to do with a "little potty" and used the regular potty from the start with the help of the Toilet Trainer from Baby Bjorn, and the Baby Bjorn Step Stool which is the perfect height! My little guy on the other hand loved the Baby Bjorn Potty Chair; the timing of when we put it in the bathroom seemed to correlate with his enthusiasm to get started. Not going to lie I prefer them using the big potty but whatever works to get them started! Baby Bjorn potty products are smartly designed and haven't failed us. Potty Training Chart - Every kiddo is different but most (including mine) are proud of their achievement of using the potty, and everyone needs positive reinforcement/encouragement; besides, who doesn't love stickers. You can likely create your own, but I like the ease of this one being ready to go! Babyganics Flushable Wipes- Because lets face it, potty training can be messy! You'll find flushable wipes stashed in our bathrooms just in case. They are gentle, plant based, and truly flushable. Ava Anderson Non Toxic Bathroom & Hard Surface Cleaner- I live in a house full of boys, where the aim is sometimes questionable, and the bathrooms can get stinky! It's hard to find a cleaner that really does the trick yet isn't full of harsh chemicals (aka bleaching my entire bathroom which not going to lie I've done).. I've tried pretty much every natural bathroom cleaner out there, and so far, Ava Anderson Non Toxic's is my go-to. I hope you'll leave a comment with your potty training product faves and of course your Potty stories :-) If you're in the throws of training, good luck, and remember it will happen!! Thanks as always for stopping by!! xx |
