Recently I seem to be making some old favorites from my childhood. Nothing fancy but foods my mom use to make me with some extra fun names! Feels nostalgic and I love that my kids enjoy them too! Not to mention they are great opportunities to get real food in them :-)
Ants On a Log- I made these the other day as a snack for the kids and they went over pretty well (especially considering I couldn't tell you the last time my 3.5y/o ate a stick of celery..:-) and he laughed so hard when I told him what they were called...love that! Anyway, Ants on Log are simple... wash your celery (I use organic) cut each stalk in to a few smaller sticks and spread with nut butter (typically peanut butter, but almond butter is yummy too) and then line up the raisins on top of the peanut butter. Perfect snack!
Egg In a Frame- This was my favorite breakfast as a kid. You simply take your favorite bread use a round cup (I use a smaller wine glass) or a circular cookie cutter to cut a circle in the middle of the bread. Heat up your frying pan and coat it with whatever you chose (i.e. nonstick spray, butter etc..) I use real butter:-) Put the bread in the pan and crack your egg right into the hole. Once the egg seems firm enough, flip the whole thing over and cook to your liking... I prefer over easy and but my kids like medium... Note I also cook the circle in the pan as well to be nicely toasted.
What are some of your favorite foods from childhood? Do you have any fun names for foods you make?
Have a great day!
